Results from Armagh Championship Saturday 29th January 2007

Club swimmers certainly made their mark at the Armagh Championship gala hosted by Lurgan last Saturday. The squad returned with 24 medals representing a huge improvement on last years performance. Top medal winners included Daniel Chambers and Daniel McQuade who took 3 gold and 1 silver each in the individual stroke events. Jack Lavery ended the day with a gold and 2 bronze while Mary McCann pocketed 2 silver and 1 bronze. Other medalists included Beth Irwin, Laura Duddy, Sean McCann, Matthew King, Aaron McAlinden, Ciaran Higgins and Leah Gersovitch. The relay teams picked up a further 3 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals in the medley and freestyle events. However, it was not all about medal winners with several club swimmers just missing out on the 'top three' positions. Thanks to all who took part - look out for the PB's on Wednesday!

One Question, What about the seniors? Helen Clements. Colum Tiffney, Catherine Black, David Lavery, Alice Patterson, did they not swim. They are racing people five years older than them and beating them and getting no thanx for it.

Comment noted. Space restricts the lenghth of reports in 'Club News' section - hence the 'highlights'. Mention and thanks was expressed to all who took part, not just medal winners! The efforts of senior members are appreciated. We rely heavily on a relatively small number of older swimmers who perhaps don't always get the praise they deserve. THanks
