Results from Armagh Championship Saturday 29th January 2007

Club swimmers certainly made their mark at the Armagh Championship gala hosted by Lurgan last Saturday. The squad returned with 24 medals representing a huge improvement on last years performance. Top medal winners included Daniel Chambers and Daniel McQuade who took 3 gold and 1 silver each in the individual stroke events. Jack Lavery ended the day with a gold and 2 bronze while Mary McCann pocketed 2 silver and 1 bronze. Other medalists included Beth Irwin, Laura Duddy, Sean McCann, Matthew King, Aaron McAlinden, Ciaran Higgins and Leah Gersovitch. The relay teams picked up a further 3 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals in the medley and freestyle events. However, it was not all about medal winners with several club swimmers just missing out on the 'top three' positions. Thanks to all who took part - look out for the PB's on Wednesday!

Update Armagh Championships Saturday 27th January

Squad members are reminded to meet at 'Waves' pool Lurgan at 8.15 am on Saturday morning. The heats will start after a 'warm-up' and hopefully things will run smoothly. Swimmers are also advised to bring plenty of fluids and 'snacks' as these will have to last all day. It is also very important to listen for events as and when they are called. Swimmers who miss their heats will not be able to swim later!

Please note! The event will be covered by 'The Belfast Telegraph' and as part of their coverage photographs will be taken of event winners. It is important that club swimmers wear the official club tracksuit/polo shirt etc as photographs will not be taken in swimwear!

As always we wish all our swimmers well. Hopefully, everyone will enjoy the competition and let's see how many 'PB's we can record. Remember! This is a club competition so give all our swimmers your encouragement and support.

There is no club swimming session in Portadown pool this Saturday morning.

Coming Soon! - Personal Swimming Log

We hope to produce a 'Swimming Log' which can be downloaded so that members can record their times, highlight 'Personal Bests' and chart their own progress. Hopefully, this will encourage swimmers to improve their performance and keep a note of all of their results in one place! At first this will take the form of a single A4 sheet divided into various sections but we would like to reach the point where records are entered 'online' and stored in an area which can be accessed by individual swimmers. In the meantime, don't throw all those 'little brown envelopes' away! Keep watching the 'Club News' section for further information.

Stroke Development Meet 2

Despite the early start club members came away with several medals at the most recent 'Stroke Development' meeting in Dungannon. Lisa Partridge took gold in the 100m Butterfly, Mary McCann silver and Jonathan Hilliard claimed top spot in the boys event. In the 100m Freestyle Mary swam her way to gold, Patrick McCann took silver and Andrew Irwin bronze. We hope to build on this success at the next meeting when more swimmers are expected to take part.

Club Success at Arthur Mc Donald Gala

Club swimmers produced a great performance on Saturday at the Arthur McDonald Novice Gala. The whole squad, boys and girls produced an outstanding series of swims to finish 2nd in the overall club rankings a mere 20 points behind the winners. This was quite an achievement and everyone connected with the club left the venue extremely proud of all those who took part. Although it is very difficult to single out any particular swimmers an extra 'well done' must go to Shauna Wilson, Sean McCann and Eden Magwood for lifting gala trophies. Thanks to Newry and Mourne for organizing the event and to all parents, grandparents and friends who came to support. Full details and times will be available on Wednesday night.

'Teletot's off to winning start!

PASC 'Teletots' made an impressive start to their season defeating Cookstown 257 - 143 points at Cascades on Saturday night. The entire squad produced a series of outstanding swims winning all individual events and team relays in every age group. For many of the younger swimmers it was their first experience of a competitive gala but they showed little sign of 'first night' nerves. Credit must also be given to the Cookstown team who never gave up and helped to make it an enjoyable night for everyone. The squad return to the water on Friday 19th January when they meet Kilkeel in Lurgan pool. Let's hope they can make it two in a row! Swimmers are asked to meet in Lurgan at 6.15pm. Full details will be given on Wednesday night.
